Bala: Ontario’s Cranberry Capital

A Small Town With Big Character

Bala, a charming lakefront town in Muskoka with a population of just 700, offers a relaxed atmosphere and attractions like Bala Falls, the Kee to Bala and seasonal markets.

Known as the Cranberry Capital of Ontario, it hosts the vibrant Bala Cranberry Festival each October, attracting around 15,000 visitors. In summer, it features inviting restaurants, lakeside patios, and a nearby winery, catering to both cottagers and travelers.

Muskoka: A Region Like No Other

Muskoka is made up of over 1,600 lakes, hundreds of scenic trails, and six distinct townships — each offering something a little different. Known for its stunning views, fiery fall colours, and relaxed pace, it’s no surprise Muskoka is considered one of Canada’s top getaway destinations.

But there’s more to this place than just postcard views. Muskoka is located on the traditional territory of the Wahta Mohawks First Nation, Moose Deer Point First Nation, and the Moon River Métis, with a cultural history that stretches back thousands of years. The name “Muskoka” is believed to come from Chief Mesqua Ukee — meaning not easily turned back in the day of battle.
